Barbados has a population of 289,680 people. Barbados is one of the most crowded countries in the world. Most of the population lives on the southern and western sides of the island, where most of the tourism is located. The western coast is sometimes called the Gold Coast because of the wealthy visitors it attracts. The north part of the island is the least populated region. Half of the population lives in urban areas. Most of the population of Barbados is black. Other people are a mix of African and European heritage or white. The rest of the population is made up of immigrants from the Middle East, India, and other countries.
