Currency The currency that is used in Barbados is the Barbadian dollar. Barbados is one of the wealthiest countries in the Caribbean. But there is a big difference between how the rich and the poor live on the island. Many of the richest Barbadians are part of families who earned their money from sugar plantations. The rich can afford to not work everyday while the poor work everyday for 6-9 hours to earn enough money to buy food for their families. Almost all the money Barbados earns goes to paying a debt to another country that aided them in the past. One Barbadian dollar is equal to $0.50 in America.
