Day 5: On your fifth day in Barbados, you will go to the Barbados Museum and Historical Society. It is 11 kilometers away and will take you 20 minutes to drive there. The Barbados Museum and Historical Society is known for being the home of Barbadian Culture and Heritage. It was founded by by Mr. Eustace Maxwell Shilstone in 1933. Its purpose was to “to study and put on permanent record the history of the Island, its leading families and public men, old buildings and other matters of interest to antiquarians in Barbados and overseas”. The museum’s buildings are historic because they originally used as a military prison for St. Ann’s Garrison. In the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, you can see a variety of different galleries such as the African gallery, children’s gallery, harewood gallery, cunard gallery, and the aili gallery. Other galleries include the social history gallery, military gallery, and decorative arts gallery. After you had a chance to see the different galleries, you will go eat lunch or dinner at the Waterfront Cafe. It is about a seven minute drive from the museum and is 2.6 kilometers away from the museum. At the Waterfront Cafe, there is a variety of options from soups to sandwiches to salads to seafood to even chicken, pork, and steak. Depending on what you order, prices range from 14 to 78 U.S. dollars. The soup is $14 and the ribeye steak is $78. After you have eaten you will go back to the Beach View Hotel. The hotel is about 8.8 kilometers (15 minutes) away from the cafe.
